Question about IChild.cs?

Why is there a "new" in IChild<TParent> ?
public interface IChild<TParent> : IChild {
    /// <summary>
    /// Gets or Sets the Parent
    /// </summary>
    new TParent Parent { get; set; }

IChild, the base interface, already has a property named Parent and it's of a different type. IChild<T> supposes to override it with a generically typed Parent property, but can't because it conflicts. This is the purpose of new - to hide the base member under the current member with the same name.
