any idea on how to attach a Message to an ApplicationBarIconButton or do i rely on OnClick EventHandler here?

Unfortunately, it's not possible. The ApplicationBarIconButton is a wrapper around native functionality and does not inherit from any typical Silverlight base class. In fact, from what I understand, you cannot even do a FindName on it to find by x:Name. This is another extreme annoyance with the WP7 API. I haven't tried it yet...but maybe a custom attached property would be able to leverage actions under the covers without the need for the triggers. If I get a chance, I'll try playing around with that and if turns into something useful, I'll include it in the framework. If you come up with anything, please share. Thanks and I apologize about the issue. Numerous MVPs/Insiders have complained about this issue to Microsoft. I don't think it's going to be fixed for v1.
